Default No start, solid CEL

Thank you, MrTodd for this great tutorial!

I am having similar problems with my 94 Honda Accord -- solid CEL. I tested the main relay and fuel pump by following the procedures outlined here:

http://techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelay.html

I did a main relay bypass by shorting out 1, 3, and 7. Got the fuel pump working but still no start. Can someone please explain to me why it wouldn't start? Thank you everyone for all the great info. here.

I think I found the source of the problem: a burned capacitor in the ECU. Is this easy to remove and put in a new one? I would like to do it by myself, as the cost of the ECU is crazy expensive. Thank you everyone.

I want to try replacing the burned component first. Is this possible? Or the entire circuit board is already fried?

If you haven't done anything like that before it's probably best not to try. You can try the local junkyard, if not ebay has them.

Thank you everyone. Please help me once again. I installed another ECU. CEL goes away when the key is in the "on" position, but the car still won't start.

1. It starts for about 4 seconds and stops.

2. CEL light comes on.

4. Diagnostic using a jumper shows 1 long blink and 5 shorts blink.

5. When key is turned off and on again, CEL goes away.

It sounds like there is not enough fuel going to the injectors/engine (weak start 4 seconds and dies).

Main relay, fuel filter, and fuel pump work fine. I verify by loosing the fuel nut and watch fuel squirting out.

I don't know what to do. Please help me. Thank you.

DTC 15 is a problem with the ignition output signal. Your car won't start if it's not receiving the signal from the ignition control module (ICM/ignitor - inside distributor) or the ignition coil is not responding.

Check all of your wire connections going to your distributor. make sure each individual wire connector is clean and tight. If they are then there are a couple tests that you can perform to check the ignitor and coil functions.

Do you have a Haynes or Helms manual?

Thank you so much. I am going to check for spark when it's dark.

There is one thing I forgot to mentioned. When I my car was being towed by a friend, I made the mistake of putting in gear and heard a loud cranking noise. I immediately stopped and put in neutral. Would this have damaged the transmission? Would a damaged transmission prevent to the car from starting?

I checked for sparks with a spark tester. I get weak sparks from all spark wires. What can cause weak sparks? The car starts for 2-4 seconds then dies. I am really stumped. Please help.

Problem with the ignition coil.

Check the resistance of the primary and secondary coil windings. (23-103 / pg. 1123)

Probably not as long as you have a stickshift. I'm not too sure about automatics. Hopefully you weren't going very fast.

I would look over your fusebox for blown fuses.
