My Gas Mileage Sucks
Hey guys, so lately my gas mileage on my 95 DX has been sucking pretty bad and i don't know why. I've done and kept up with the basic maintenance stuff, but even then im burning through at least a half tank within 2 days maybe even more. my motor is already pushing 198xxx miles on it, and i figured that might be why its wasting so much gas, but as of right now i cant afford to look for another or rebuild it.
can anyone here help me out with this? what else can i do to improve the mileage on my DD?

oh ok. well driving around on half a tank, by the time i get home its about less than a quarter and ive only put in about 12 - 46 miles depending, but usually thats the kind of driving i do within that time frame
10 gallon tank, and you're using about 3 gallons traveling 12-46 miles? There's more to that than a simple tuneup will fix, unless you're...trying to blow up the motor, running it at redline for 11 of those 12 miles.
I'm gonna have to go with the usual party line here. Compression/blowdown test. Any CELs? Anything else out of the ordinary other than abysmal gas mileage?

I use "Mileage" by Evan Charlton (Android).
Also... air filter clean? When was the fuel filter changed last?
O2 sensor working fine?
Once all the above are checked/replaced, IMO the best thing to do is to send the Injectors out and get them cleaned/refurbed by Rich:

Good luck man.

yeah the CEL works ive had it come on a few times in the past and i fixed the problems that came with it each time, but so far it hasn't come on. anyways imma get to all these suggestions so i can figure this out
Guys, considering the mileage he says he's getting, assuming he isn't exaggerating, a simple tune up paint going to solve this. If he was down to 20, sure, but he's saying more like 3mpg.
OP, while you're doing everything else, fill your tank and reset your trip meter. Drive to empty, fill up again, then divide your trip meter by how many gaskins you put in on the second fill up. I want to know exactly what kind of mileage we're looking at here.

Given the inaccuracy of the Civic gas gauge, it's almost futile to estimate how poor the OP's gas mileage is until real mpg figures are posted.

that too, ive always known that the gauge tends to be somewhat off, so i dont really rely on it for much, but given the half tank estimate and coming back with less than a 1/4 left after my small trips, id say its something to i guess base off my estimate, but imma try what someone else said and do the mileage thing and ill come back with some better numbers, for now imma go and check and clean my iacv and throttle body
You said 12-46 miles from a quarter tank. 1/4 tank is 2.5 gallons. That comes out to something between 5 and 18 MPG. I'm just going off the numbers you gave.
i figured with my engine already nearing the 200k mark, i was thinkin maybe the motor is already too old and my mileage is suffering, but damn i take care of this thing pretty decently, i dont drive like an ***, and the fastest ive gone is probably 80mph on the freeway, but other than that i coast it all the time
That's the best way to get an accurate measure. In fact, the more tanks you do it over and average out those numbers, the more accurate the number will be.
My engine is stock 94 del Sol. I got 24 - 26 MpG. I don't wrong on my car?
I just change spark plug + Wires, air filter, O2 censer, Master Break Cylinder, Fuel Filter and timing belt + water pump. Nothing leak. I don't know what going on? It take gas too much.
