Default Check oil light flickering on my 97 ej6

So recently my oil light has been coming on everytime i go into neutral. It did that for like 2 weeks and now it is flickering and totally random. I was thinking it was wiring but also im thinking that its because i only have 4/5 valve cover bolts making it lose pressure. Any help is much appreciated.

Is the engine low on oil?

How many miles on the engine?

Measure the oil pressure.

In my opinion, you first need to rule out low oil pressure, as this condition WILL destroy the engine. If pressure is fine, then you obviously troubleshoot the circuit, comforted by the fact that there's no engine risk.

I would stop driving the car until you have measured the pressure.

Just reinforcing Ron's advice, similar problem on a car a friend had purchased as a daily. Same condition (flickering light, oil level fine), seller said it's faulty wiring and not to worry. A few months later the engine threw a rod out the front of the block. Don't risk it!!

does the oil light flicker all the time or does it just flicker when the car is warm and is at idle? That light is called the "dummy" light and it only comes on at around 4-5 psi which is dangerously low.

Like Ron said, I would stop running the car immediately until you can hook up a oil gauge to see exactly what your reading is and go from there.

Things to check if you pressure is indeed low:

- Oil pickup screen
- Oil pump
- Main and rod bearings

It used to only come one when idling then it started flickering randomly and now it doesnt come on at all. The car has been driving fine though, I dont notice any difference then before when i wasnt having light issues. Either way im gonna check the pressure today. Thanks for the advice.
