Best shocks w/ Ground Control coilovers - Near stock height
Installed Ground Control coilovers about 10 years back and have raised them to stock or near stock height about a year ago. Took the car to a shop today and the mechanic said I needed new shocks and springs since the ones I have installed on my car are aftermarket springs and shocks (dont know about the shocks part, never bought any aftermarket shocks before and Im the original owner). He quoted me $1600 for the job. Now since I dont think I need new springs (Last I looked at them they seemed good) what are the best shocks/struts I could buy to go with my (near) stock height prelude with coilovers? This is just a daily driven car now, no racing or anything. Is it even worth it to buy Koni Yellows even though Im riding stock height? Go with Koni Yellows, OEM, any other suggestions? Any reliable/cheap sellers for these shocks? Thank you!
Yellows will be a firmer ride than you have now. It will give you better control, but will not be as comfortable or forgiving as the stock shocks. Your shock choice will depend on what kind of ride quality you want and how much you want to spend. You should be able to find something comparable to stock (if that's what you're looking for) without spending near as much as getting the actual Honda-branded ones.
I agree with the poster above.
Time to find a new shop.
And about those shocks, since you have ground controls on stock shocks, you can only run the kyb, tockio shocks etc. Koni yellows would be better but I dont think your coilover sleeves will fit on them.

yea no the koni yellows are wider in diameter than your stock shocks. GC actually sells the correct diameter coilovers to fit yellows but you bought the coilovers to fit your stock shocks so yellows are out of the question. i agree with azn about the shock choices. keep your GC dont touch the springs just take them off your old shocks and slide them on the new ones. very simple install theres a million DIY videos on youtube if you want to take it on yourself. i did and it came out fine. took me about 2 days though because i kept finding tools i needed and didnt have (otherwise it will take you a day). You can rent a spring compressor from your local autozone for free. its like 45$ deposit that you get back when you return it. Find a new shop, they are trying to rip you off. I once went to get my breaks changed at firestone and they told me i needed to replace my aftermarket drilled rotors with stock ones. i told them **** you ill do it myself....
