Icon2 1996 prelude "s" won't get spark from coil. Completely lost.

Hey guys so I'm more of a civic guy but I've got buddys with preludes and one particular friends prelude won't get spark from the coil. We've back probed the coil and the coil gets power but is not firing to the cap. The wires are brand new even coil to cap. So I'm kinda lost at this point. Any help is appreciated

Sounds like the coil is bad...

The ignition is controlled by the ecu and divided to the cylinders by the distributor, so the wiring coming out the bottom of the coil and also going to the distributor need to be plugged in and functional.

All connectors plugged in and the coil has been replaced twice now

Is there maybe a coil driver that isn't letting the coil itself fire? Or possibly the crank or can angle sensor that won't let the coil fire?

What year/trim level/engine is this Prelude?

The title says its a 96 S trim, has anyone else seen one of these? From what I know of 96 preludes they are OBDII which means they have a crank sensor on the front of the engine. Make sure this is installed and hooked up correctly also. This tells the ecu where the crank is and it then calcs when to fire coil. Also another similar sensor inside the distributor, something else to check.

Thanks mike. Yea my buddy said hrs getting a crank sensor code which makes sense why it wouldn't fire. But the problem I see is that he was driving the car and it just shut off on him mid drive. I figured the car Wouldve atleast gotten him home in a limp mode setting. But I'll look at those and go from there

Yeah, sorry I missed the thread title. 96 is OBD2 which does have the crank sensor like you guys said. Check your timing and that sensor for sure....
