Default Bad Distributor?!?!

Ok, so I recently hooked up the msd btm... The first time I tried it, I hooked up up using the msd 6a btm instructions... cranked it over, and got no spark. So I checked the wiring, and then realized I had it hooked up all wrong (had it hooked up as the msd 6a btm instead of the msd btm) and rewired it the way it was supposed to be wired.

I ended up busting the coil, so I changed the coil to an external, and got a new cap with it (one of the clear kinds). I can see that the car is getting spark, but my car will not start. I have the spark plug wires in the right order, and I am pretty sure that the icm is not bad. I am at a complete loss and can not figure out what is wrong.

Is there a possibility that I might need a new distributor all together? If so what else is there inside the distributor that I could have messed up?

Thanks.

im not to smart with this stuff either but hey opinions help right? You said you got a new cap but what about a rotor? maybe your wires could have gone bad or did you check the gap on your plugs? i'ds check the wires again on your new coil making sure you connected the two not to the opposite ones.. if non of that works then im up for learnin how to fix this problem for future reference

the wires aren't very old, and the rotor is new also. Does anyone know the components in the distributor that would make the whole thing go bad? I will probably just end up buying a new one from distributor king...

i tried a different ignitor/icm and it didn't help. the crazy thing is, I am still getting spark and fuel! Something must not be sending the right signals to the computer... what kind of other sensors are inside?

Man, the older domestics must have it easy with no computers

when my distributor took a crap on me, my buddies and i attemped to do a lil road side repair and but a brand new one on and turned it over and still no start so i was stuck scratching my headwell turns out when we installed the new distributor it was 180 degrees out of wack makes sence thats just what happend to me and you seem to have the same symptoms i don't even know if you have to remove the distributor for the whole msd thing but like i said same symptoms doesn't hurt to check if it gets your car running again

i think all u have to do is just reverse the distributer to set the timing on it right and that should do it.. i was havin the same exact problem with my car today i had spark, fuel, and it was turning over but wouldnt start and it was backfiring too

Well, the cell doesn't come on, so I think there isn't a code being thrown. I just tried to reverse my distributor 180* and that wasn't it (I was going to feel like a total idiot if that was it). I've ordered a new distributor from distributor king, hopefully that will fix my problem. I will update when I do fix it.

And no thats not me in my avatar, it's my wife... I wish.

I've personally never heard anything bad about distributor king. He's a sponsor on honda-tech and gives a 10% discount to members. I've always heard that he honors the lifetime warranty. Plus he has a 100% feedback with over 3000 sales on ebay. HARD to do.

I just got the distributor in today... Installed it, but it didn't help. I am extremely confused. I am getting spark and fuel, so the ecu isn't bad or anything. (It wouldn't spray fuel if it was bad would it?) I've taken the plugs out to see if there is spark in the plugs and there is. (Shocked myself on accident) Since I got the new distributor on, I have taken all the msd stuff off (I might have to sell it.)

I am at a complete loss, someone please help!

Had the same experience too...Just like the guy before, it was my distributor being 180 deg off. Turns out the lugs on the back that plug into the camshaft or whatever are offset just a hair to one side. It's something that you won't notice unless you know to look for it. I noticed that when I put my dizzy on, it was sitting crooked on the engine when I tightened two of the three bolts. Also it was really hard to get on the engine.

Took it off, turned it 180, and it went back in like sex. Mounted flush to the engine and I could turn it smoothly to adjust the timing. If this isn't it, I'm stumped. An engine needs three things- gas, air, and spark- delivered at the right time to work. If it ain't any of those three, and it ain't the timing, I don't know what it could be.

It's on right, I noticed that it was harder to put on one way than the other. I'm thinking I might have an open in one of the wires.

Damn I wish I had a dometic right now!

dude what about firing order? if thats good, check the order the wires are set up on the distributor. this is often overlooked. on the d- and i think b- series too the firing order is 1-3-4-2. most people just assume its 1-2-3-4. Believe me, a lot of people. it generally wont start in that configuration, and it might almost start but sound baaaad. 1 is the cylinder opposite the distributor, 4 is the closest to the dizzy.
