Default e-brake adjustment woes

my parking break is half-assed at the moment...when i engage it the car still slowly creeps forward (at about half the normal speed it would idle forward without the brake engaged)

so i take the console off and go to adjust the bolt AND ITS STRIPPED...i can get a little bit of tension but then it slips back down to where it was.

this is no good, because i cant jack up my car without the e-brake engaged (safely)

if i replace the whole handle/springloaded bolt mechanism...how do i get the cables off the old bolt and onto the new ones? i will try to get some pics up, but there's really nothing to look at. i need about another 1/4inch of play on that adjustment bolt to get the grip i need from the rear brakes.

any info you can provide would be helpful. thanks for reading.

If its stripped is it from someone overtightening the cables?
You can still safely jack a vehicle up by using wheel chocks.
What year, and sub model of Accord do you have? Dis or Drum rear brakes?
Have you checked with Majestic Honda parts section online?

i suppose it is possible that someone over tightened the cables...but that person definitely was not me.

97 LX /CD7 (rear drums)

have not checked majestic yet. the threads that i can see dont look damaged...but the bolt acts like its going to tighten up and then slides right back to the end. there is minimal bite, i would say.

there is play, just not enough.

Make sure the rear drums are adjusted correctly. Often times the rear adjuster can jam, or if the wheel cylinders are leaking, they never will.

i took apart the parking break assembly and made sure the adjusting nut wasnt stripped. tightened it all back up and they e-brake has proper bite now.

the real problem is that the rear brakes are prolly shot. no sweat.
