Default No slack in clutch cable

Hey guys,

I have a 93 RS with a GSR swap and I just installed a short geared YS1 (Gsr) cable tranny with LSD. I am trying to hook up the clutch cable after the new tranny went in and there is not enough slack on it to even reach the actuator arm when connected to the pedal. I adjusted the cable to give it the most slack it could but it still cannot reach. I'm installing the cable right but I must be missing something. I read in another post that maybe gsr and ls trannies have different length clutch cables. Has anyone had any experience with this in the past? Thanks a lot

The cables are different part numbers, but that might not matter. I think you're supposed to hook the cable onto the clutch arm first, THEN hook it up to the pedal, which is how I've done it. That would mean you'll need to unhook it from the pedal and try again.

How did you get it unhooked from the clutch arm in the first place?

I tried hooking it up to the arm first and then the pedal, but when I did that, there wasn't enough slack to reach the pedal. It is too short either way.

Try not having the cable sit in the two holders that route it directly over the valve cover, near the back side, that should give you a little more slack. Be sure to have the mount that holds the cable near the transmission the correct way, I think if you flip it around the cable will have no slack. You can also adjust the amount of slack at the pedal, but im sure you already knew that. Good luck!

Thanks bud, I actually am not even using the holder that route it over the valve cover. I've tried running it over the valve cover, under the intake manifold, everyway with no luck. I'm kinda stumped because its the same cable that I was using before I swapped trannies. The mount is definately right by the arm. Any other ideas!? lol

Loosen the cable stop on top of the tranny then hook up the cable and tighten the
cable stop bracket back up. 90-91 has a samller case than 92-93.

Tried loosening it all the way and still a good amount too short. I've wrestled with it for like 2 hours. I dropped my tranny yesterday to install a new throwout bearing. Everything went smooth, then the damn clutch cable is giving me more problems than dropping the tranny did, so weird. I'm gonna buy a new cable today, even though I would think my old cable would be longer if anything after wear. IDK

Yes, I actually purchased a new clutch cable from autozone for like 30 bucks and it did the trick. The quality of the clutch cable from autozone was so much better than oem as well, believe it or not. To adjust the cable it is threaded metal instead of plastic like the oem. Give it a try,,,, I also connected the cable to the tranny first and used a small plier to pull the cable inside the cabin to the pedal... It was still a super tight for though, much tighter than before I swapped my tranny.

Thanks bud. I bought one from Advance and the brass fitting wouldn't even fit through the pedal hole. Not to mention it didn't even have a firewall grommet. I just ordered an Exedy cable, hopefully It'll do the trick.
