Default Timing Belt Change now lots of problems

I changed my timing belt yesterday and now i have quite a few problems. My CEL is on but i don't have a code reader. Also the second time i tried starting my car it had a very violent start. The dash lights were flashing and the car was shaking, it finally started though. Then if i give it some gas the engine sounds weird, like its jumping a bit. I'm about ready to give up and take it in unless anybody has any advice.

thanks

double check your timing, might have gotten the belt on a few teeth off. any chain auto parts store reads codes for free...

If your car is pre obd2 then you dont need a code reader. Its defenitly more then likely that you got the timing a few teeth off though.

well, a few things come to mind...

you never stated whether or not you double checked all your timing marks. I would first do that. Make sure everything lines up as it should and that nothing is off on either of the belts.

If everything lines up then check your CEL. You didn't mention the year of your car so I don't know if it's OBDI or OBDII. If it's OBDI then you can use a paper clip to jump the service connector and retrieve the code(s), if it's OBDII then you'll need a scanner which AutoZone will do for free or you can rent it and do it yourself and then return.

Start with those and let us know what you find.

For your information, you don't need to remove the lower cover to move the belt if it's not timed properly. You can correct this by removing the upper cover only. And, if you're a bit bullish you don't even need to loosen the tensioner.

it's possible to pull codes on an OBDII Accord with a paperclip. at least up to the 2002 model year. i've not tried anything newer. jump pins #13 and #8 on the OBDII port. it will flash the same as an OBDI.

see link for more info.

Yeah but it wont give you the exact code as in obd2 code readers. You will still have to hunt down the problem. Obd2 jumped obd style gives you obd codes not obd2 codes

Well guys, i got a p1536 and that was no reading from TDC sensor. So i checked my timing, and it was perfect, but ofcourse i found that my crank pos sensor was UNplugged. I plugged it back in and guess what? The car is fine.
