Default Spectre Performance Air Filter 888040

I am thinking about purchasing this drop in filter.

Is it worth the $30 or is it the same as buying a fram one for $15?

I know it is washable and reuseable, but besides that are there any other benefits?

I know its along shot but any HP increase?

for 20 more you can get a k&n that is a great filter, but if your car is stock and just for regular driving you will be fine with just the regular fram drop it

Well i went ahead and got the spectre filter from ebay.

I got it for $15 which was the price of a fram one so I thought what the heck.

Anyways there was an issue. The filter does not fit. Its not even close. The filter is rectangle the enclose is a square.

I looked at a lot of sites and they all say that this filter should fit my civic??

Anyone have this issue?

Here is the link to the filter.

http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-Perfor.../dp/B001DBTVMI

There are countless websites that state that this item including the part number will fit my 1997 Honda Civic EX.

Here is a picture of the stock air filter next to the Spectre.

Any ideas what is going on? Even the seller was very confused. I bought it on ebay. He stated to just keep it and sent me a refund since he did not know what was going on. The part number is also stamped on the filter so I know it is the correct one.

And I want to apologize for taking so long to post. I was finishing up nursing school.

I am one test away from becoming a Registered Nurse.

As you can see the stock filter is square and the Spectre one is rectangular.

Contact the seller.
Should have gotten a K&N.

I did contact the seller. He as well does not know what is going on.

Your k/n filter comment does not help at all.

I know they are the best.

If I had $50 to spend on a filter I would of bought that one.

Edited this post.
If seller is taking care of the issue then there is no issue here.

The filter you have looks pretty white and clean to me. Keep it and save up for a K&N.

I paid $13.99 for it, I thought if I could get a "performance" one for the price of a fram one why not? The seller returned my money and let me keep it.

What I am wondering is why every website out there lists this filter as being compatible with my 97 civic ex when it is not?

Maybe there is something I don't know about?

You sure it's not for a DX? They made those in 97 too.

I found a short ram intake and spectre filter on ebay for $35 shipped when I was looking to do a K&N drop in. Fitment is pretty good and it sounds great. Throttle response improved over the factory airbox

Not your car. The filter. It looks like it would fit a DX airbox.

When I enter fitment I enter EX.

Even the autozone website says this should fit my vehicle.

Spectre is a low quality brand. K&N filters flow more by having larger holes and letting more debris through.

Find a foam element filter, or at least a foam prefilter if you get a K&N. I am running a UNI filter on my turbo GSR engine. No it won't flow as well as running without a filter, but it's a trade off.
