Default DUMP TUBE

Do you lose power when you dont run any kind of dump tube on your waste gate? And will to short of a open down pipe make you lose power?

When you are saying power - are you referring to horsepower or torque? It depends on how big you go... you can gain horsepower this way to a point but you will lose torque. Of course there is a point where things will balance and unbalance on either end of the spectrum.

You will gain power if you run a dumptube, don't have a wastegate dump into your engine bay. Horrible for the turbo to be sucking that back up.

Not to mention you just start melting stuff with the flames shooting out of the wastegate lol

The dump tube needs to be long enough for all the exhaust gases to completely escape the engine bay. If your turbo is breathing exhaust gases, you will not only loose power but you are more likely to detonate.

You wouldnt detonate, it would act like an EGR valve and loose power.. less oxygen

this is what i was thinking

**** would melt quick. where ever that valve is pointed is going to get hot in a jiffy. horrible for detonation too since you'll be introducing 1000+deg air into the intake area. so actually, yes, you will loose hp with no dumptube

You have to remember it has to pass back through the intercooler it would cool... just no oxygen because the spent fuel would replace it

he tried to say the hot air would be cooled by the intercooler.

would still be hotter then hell regardless though. IAT's through the roof.

If you knew how an EGR actually worked then your statement would make sense. An EGR is not just a tube from the exhaust to the IM, it is a specifically calibrated instrument that opens under heavy vacuum conditions (decel and low load) and reroutes a very small amount of exhaust gases back through the engine.

You're trying to liken this to a 38mm-60mm blowing straight exhaust gases out through the entire engine bay, then the turbo pulling all of that soot and heat back through the engine at WOT. Yeah, that's detonation central right there.

OP- look at pictures of every high horsepower vehicle on this forum... they have a dumptube...

good god you would loose a ton of hp, iat would be out of control, possible pre ignition due to increased instability of high iat air.... the list goes on, and does include melted ****.

i had a friend who picked up 40 something hp on the dyno just from extending his dumptube to behind his oil pan. i saw the whole thing happen right in front of me being there that day

**** my dumptube exits out of my bumper to really be sure that hot, oxygen deprived gas is no where near my turbo inlet (and slightly to annoy people when the gate opens up)
