Y1 vs S1 Cable Tranny
i would personally go with a ys1. i currently have the jdm s1 tranny on my b20 and its really not fun. its just like having a 96-97 type r tranny without lsd and trust me it ****ing sucks. i mainly shift 1-3-5, no need for 2/4 gear. 5th gear 4700 rpms = like 76mph

oddly enough i didnt have boost by gear on my b16a2 turbo with a b16a3 tranny which has the same gearing as my current tranny but i never had problems with traction really. maybe it wasnt as bad with my old car because i could rev alot higher.
Although, I do completely agree - short gear transmission are the way to go for naturally aspirated engines. Especially those without good torque.
No offense, but I should have been a little more direct - it's because of the low torque B16... nature of the beast is all... I still love the underdog, I have a few spare B16 blocks waiting for me to decide if I am going to build one or not. Ever since my son moved on from Hondas they have been sitting there haha.
Same as S1/YS1 but with a 4.40 Final Drive. The chart does have a few descrepincies that I posted but nothing extreme... Here is the Wikipedia page on it...
