Default my 1.6 stock bottom end turbo integra build

Since I had a lot of fun with my stock ITR bottom end all motor CRX that went low 12's with full interior and 93 pump gas, I decided it was time to build a cheap stock parts bottom end turbo car. It seemed that I was getting some sort of reputation as being an all motor guy, since I obviously had built some fast all motor CRX's and my all motor integra, so building a turbo car for myself seemed to be right for the times...

Now I have all kinds of parts laying around, but really don't like spending a whole lot of money since I have other priorities. So I had a '90 integra that my friend gave me for building his EG hatch. The '90 teg run fine and even had ice cold AC after I fixed it. I was kinda happy with the '90 teg, but it really looked rough and I had an opportunity to trade for a '96 integra shell. The shell was in decent shape, at least good enough to warrant trading my DA for it. I had some parts to build a motor for it, so i figured it would be nice to have better interior and a better looking, newer car to drive around. i also acquired an eg hatch shell for doing some labor for another guy which i traded for some turbo parts. I borrowed the turbo from a friend, and all in all I only spent money on my vw radiator, new oil pump, bearings and some misc bolts and stuff when it come to building the car.

I decided to put together a b16A motor with GSR pistons. I thought about running some B16 pistons, but I really didn't have a good set laying around. I had some b16 rods which used to have CTR pistons that a friend of mine gave me, so I put the GSR pistons on them. Maybe the lower compression would be a good thing for turbo later on down the road...

I put a b16 transmission with an LS 5th gear together from my buckets of transmission parts and then put the swap in the car. The motor is basically a stock b16a motor with GSr pistons, cams, ITR intake and some ARP headstuds... here is a pic of the teg after I put in the swap trying to get along with my 5.0

I turbocharged the car a week after driving it around all-motor, and ended up shoehorning a civic radiator a friend let me borrow until my VW Scirocco radiator come in. I put the car on what I believe is a precision T3/60-1 (maybe it's a 60 trim I'd really like to know lol) and tuned it out on the street to 10 lbs to drive around for a while to wait for any problems. When my radiator come in, it was time to make some minor changes...

the VW radiator doesn't have a radiator cap built in, and I was too lazy to build some sort of surge tank. So i picked up the moroso inline radiator cap from gary watson racing, a local speed shop in beaumont that has a lot of parts on hand.

i still need to fab up some traction bars and other misc stuff along with yanking everything out and stripping/repainting the engine bay, but overall i am happy with what I put together for next to nothing. The engine bay really gets on my nerves, as the previous owner's choice of paint basically looks just like grease even when it's perfectly clean lol

hopefully I'll have some time to take it to the track to get track results.... i sure hope it runs a better time than my full weight b20V teg did at 12.92@104.5 rofl. I'm going to run it at 10 lb to see how it does, then crank the boost to get a number out of it. I figure I might get 400ish WHP out of the stock bottom end setup for a while, but I do have a forged rod/piston motor and a built head ready to go in when **** happens lol.

got to do some minor fab work, put the car on bigger injectors and a 3 bar MAP, but I will most likely see what she does at HRP on Friday

sorry H-T if my build isn't trendy enough for you guys but it sure is cheap and very fun rofl

yeah lol. my butt dyno tells me it's a lil bit faster than the last all motor CRX I put together. I should know what it runs tomorrow, though!

lol yeah man that was one of the rare days we had rain when I picked up the teg

tonight I put my 3 bar MAP and some denso 720's on the teg and tuned it on wastegate and then up to 12 lbs. Car feels right to bring to the track now.

I like the idea of the scirrocco radiator, but not the idea of the lower cross member being cut out being its structural. i hope your installing traction bars to make up for that structure being cut out

yeah it does make the radiator and intercooler vulnerable if I hit stuff. I plan on fabbing up a traction bar setup which will also act as a bumper support, intercooler support and radiator support.

datalogger shows the 720's are at 80% duty cycle at 12 lb (walbro pump and stock fpr) so maybe the car is making a lil bit over 300 right now. I need a fitting to put my aeromotive fpr on and nobody carries that kind of stuff here in beaumont tx area lol.

car runs well, got it in the high 11's AFR under boost and have the cruising and light acceleration parts of the map tuned out well.

honestly I can't remember to be exact. I want to say when I am hauling *** I am around the 186 range. I also run a brand new factory Honda thermostat from a 99 SI

i took it to the track and just run on street tires. I already knew I would have trouble, but I hadnt put my solid mounts in yet (figured slicks would just get a lot of wheelhop and most likely break axles and mounts).

Best run was 14.4@108 with the worst short track I have ever seen. 1st and 2nd gear were pretty much useless lol. I'll have to get the timeslip out of the car in the morning, but I think that run had a 2.7 60' and the 1/8th was 10.0@81. Car weight with me driving was 2885. I think I can take all my tools and crap out next time, put the slicks and skinnies on and get the car down to around 2700ish. Hopefully I can get the car to hook well and cut some 1.6x 60's and get decent ET's

got the slips out of the car earlier

next week I'm going to a local cruise event that has a track portion and will see how she does on slicks. I might even crank the boost to max out these 720's lol

heck I need to get the whole first half of the track down ROFL

gonna put some solid mounts in the car and get it on my welds for the next time at the track. I got one more weekend of testing before IFO. I'm gonna take all my tools out of the car and try to get it down to 2700 lbs with driver along with at least some 1.7x 60's

here is a pic of my old teg on my slicks and skinnies (didn't have good suspension and would only cut 1.8 60's but still went 12's all motor full weight)

lol yeah the photographer got me on the launch. I think the car had stock suspension from a civic in the front and some kind of coilover in the back. My new teg has better suspension, so hopefully it's just a matter of adjusting it to get some decent 60's on slicks. I wish I had extra coin to get some 24.5" slicks now, as I will most probably be getting close to the limiter in 4th gear going down the track on the 22's

made a dump tube for the wastegate last night and had to add some fuel (exhaust gas most likely being sucked back into the turbo) and car feels a lot faster.

so I got to checking the car and noticed the oil pan gasket was pushing oil after I cranked the boost up. After removing it appeared to be leaking on the transmission side of the motor and also near the oil pump. I put permatex ultra grey on both sides of the gasket and put the pan back on. Also noticed a small leak on the turbo oil drain that I need to figure out too. The biggest wtf moment working on this car was noticing this surprise sitting only a few feet away from where I was laying on the ground working on my car:

here is a log of the temps on a 4th gear pull at around 14 lbs. right now i got the car at 15 lbs but forgot to save the logs. IAT is in the factory location on the ITR intake manifold.

took the car to HRP tonight, got two runs in.

first run I didn't shift into 2nd fast enough (spun all of first gear but I try to shift to 2nd when i feel the car stop accelerating) got a crappy short track, hit the limiter in 4th at 8500 and coasted to a 12.1@112

next run I botched the launch, got a crappy 60' but drove the car a lil better this time, getting the 2nd gear just right IMO and shifted to 5th and coasted for about the last 100' since I maxed 4th out again. I raised the limiter to 8600 for the 2nd run and got 12.1@114.

here are the slips:

I thought I could lower the front of the car at the track since it has coilovers, but apparently it is already all the way down. The springs must not be made for coilovers lol

I'm running her again tomorrow in hope of getting some 1.6x 60's on a better prepped track at Evadale and breaking into the 11's

as far as I know I have no valve to piston interference. I'm running a stock HG.

I've read a few threads on H-T where people have revved the stock head to 9000 and I'm thinking about doing it on the big end of the track just to not have to hit the limiter in 4th. Not quite sure if I want to do it, but I'm going to Evadale Raceway today.

Lol, I just saw this build today. And yes, your car does not have manley turbo tuff rods, custom cp pistons, super ram horn manifold, billet wheel ball bearing super aero turbo, etc so most of is not attracted to it. However, I like the tech.

BTW, my thread has only a few hits. I guess I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to demostrate actual tech so now one is interested. The best part of all is my nine yr old son is the one doing most of the clearances and the wrench turning.

your thread is badass man i loved the pics. There isnt much tech anymore...it seems like everyone wanrs to jump on the latest bandwagon.

Im at the track right now revving the motor to 9k rofl. Went 12.04@117 so far still needing improvement on timing the 1-2 shift. Waiting for it to cool down as i am 4mph down on the 1/8th compared to last nights runs.

no topmount no care!!

No but on the real nice job on the homemade turbo build.i can respect a build like this especially seeing as how you do all your own work(motor, trans assembly, and tuning)more so than somebody who just orders the new "it" parts, which we all know ANYBODY can do.Some more seat time, lsd, and decent suspension should do you good.
