minor leak

Default minor leak

hey guys my tranny is starting to leak at the seal where the shifter linkage connects to the tranny and the little boot is ripped as well. does anyone know what that part is called so i can get new ones? thanks

nope, can be done in car.

Drain tranny, remove shift linkage, remove dust boot. Put tranny into 2/4/R by shoving the shift shaft inwards.

Put catch pan under the shift shaft seal, drive seal out with a slotted screwdriver and a hammer, wait for the draining to stop.

Apply a little silcone (SilGylde is what I use) to the seal and drive it into the case with a socket and hammer. I use a 9/16" 12 point Craftsman deep well for this.

While this is easy to do on the work bench, it will be harder under the car.

Use a new dust bellow.
