Icon2 Oil in one of my spark plug chambers?? 95 DX Coupe

My 95 DX coupe is burning oil bad, blowing smoke out my exhaust and i have oil on the bottom of my spark plug wire and in the chamber. i changed my valve cover gasket and put new valve cover bolts on because the old ones were striped but its still getting oil in the chamber! Can somebody give me some ideas of maybe what seal this could be and a estimated price to fix?? motor is the stock d15b7. thanks

theres round gaskets for the spark plug chambers you have to change, then torque down the VC to oem specs. i dont think it should smoke because of this though

wrong.

It's the lower spark plug tube seals.

You need to remove the valve cover and rocker assembly to replace the lower o rings. A very common issue on the 95 and older non VTEC Civics and some Accords.

And yes, the smoking is a separate issue.

I am wondering about smoking being bad rings.

1995 model, and this is the year 2011 = 16 years old. I might wonder the same, and also wonder how many miles are on this engine? I think rings would be right on for this engine if it has seen several miles, which I'm sure it proabably has.....

Is this something that just started?

The D15B7 has 2 sets of seals for the spark plug tubes, the ones directly under the valve cover and the o-rings under the rocker assy.

The rocker assy. can be unbolted/removed and lifted off as an assembly to change the o-rings. Make sure you have an appropriate torque wrench and manual with tightening sequence and torque specifications. The aluminium is easily stripped if you over torque the bolts and you don't want anything to come loose either.

Meanwhile you can simply remove the spark plug and let the accumulated oil drain into the cylinder (if there isn't too much! you don't want to hydrolock the cylinder!).

The engine smoking is probably worn rings or valve stem seals. As long as you aren't fouling plugs don't worry about it. Unless it's white smoke then you may have a blown headgasket.

I my self just did the valve cover gaskets for my d15b7 because I also noticed oil in cylinder 3. Advanced auto has these in stock bought online with promo code $24 and picked up at store. Removal and installation was straight forward and done in 15 minutes. So I drive the car and go back to inspect my work and sure enough very small leak in cylinder 3 duct about 2-3 inches into duct. Is this where the second set of O-rings are? This is my first EG and I got it for a daily driver but don't want to chance anymore driving before I get this fixed. I gotta download the service manual.

Just looked it up and the rocker assembly has to be removed and change out a few o-rings 1 hour worth of labor at most.

http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/oilyplugs/index.html this will be useful. The same thing happened to me a week ago. The leaking seals is the bottom o-rings.Its rather quick to do.My manual didnt have the removal or installation sequence so we followed a similar pattern to that of the head. For removal start on the outside and work your way in. Do this in a cris cross pattern making no more than 2 turns per bolt. For installation start inside and work your way out, opposite of removal.Finger tight all bolts and then start tightening half a turn at a time until its to spec. Replace the grommets under the valve cover and the valve cover gasket. This will solve the oil leak.Smoke it either rings or valve seals, probably rings.

I have a d15b7 and mine has the same problem. I replaced the valve cover gasket but it still gets oil on the plugs. One gets drenched in oil and another has a little on it. It also blows blue smoke while im driving. Is it possible that its just the valve seals causing all of that? It has plenty of power it just smokes mainly when i take off and going down the road but it stops and starts again when i take off

a quart a day is more than likely mainly bad rings, some it is probably the valve stem seals too. the oil in the spark plug tube is the spark plug seals the oem seals will msrp about 3.25ea.
