Default oil light

Hey guys when I start up my car the oil light will come on along with the rest of the dash lights but after the other lights turn off the oil light will stay on for 5 to 10 seconds befor eturning off. Can this be sign of things to come?

I imagine you've checked your oil. It could be the oil pressure switch.

your wire may not be getting a good connection on the pressure switch on the back of the block

In this case, the light would not turn on. The problem is that the light is on when it should not be.

When that light comes on and stays on it means you have practically no oil in the car.

No. It means the oil pressure is too low as measured by the switch (or that the oil pressure switch is faulty or the oil pressure switch wire is bad). Low oil pressure can be caused by low oil, as you said, but also a bad oil pump or blocked oil flow.

I wouldn't drive the car again until you fix the problem, you will spin a bearing if your oil pump is about to go.
