Here are some pictures of the situation. Obviously the pulley USED to have a notch in it, but it's gone. I have no idea where the woodruff key is. Can I get by with replacing the pulley, key and maybe using a metal compound to fix the shaft? Or am I going to have to replace the shaft entirely. I deliver pizzas in this car, so I need it to work, but I don't want to put a ton of money into it. Thanks everyone.

You did not post a picture of the most important damage -- to the crankshaft. The pulley is easy to replace.

that crankshaft looks beyond repair and the crank pulley has no tooth. it looks like it was rode messed up for a while . looks like u need a new bottom end. if ur not too mechanically incline or rebuilt a motor before i would not recommend u changing the crankshaft out yourself but i would have a shop do it. most d series motors are a dime a dozen and would be cheaper and easier to swap ur own junk yard motor in. then having a mechanic replace the crankshaft which would probably cost more.

 

Why isn't the end of the crankshaft protruding outward from the block? Or have you not removed the lower timing belt cover?

I'd agree if more pictures confirm a severely damaged crankshaft end.

 

I have done head gaskets and things, but never rebuilt a motor. Someone said all I needed to do was drop the oil pan, unbolt the crank, put a new one in and replace the oil pan. I guess he left out some details? Haha. To craigslist it goes. I don't think the car is worth paying a shop for an engine rebuild.

 

Yes, the timing belt cover is still on.

Remove the cover and post some clear pictures of the crankshaft end so that we can fully evaluate its condition. The answer may be the same but it's worth a shot.
