idle adjustment screw question
Yeah i mess with it anytime i do a tuneup, plus if i ever have problems when it gets winter time. The ecu doesn't overide it from what i've seen so don't get crazy with it. A small turn in either direction can make a big diff.
Don't just play with the idle adjust screw. Diagrams for the proper procedures, which are engine and generation specific, can be found in the FAQs sticky.
At least for 6th generation Civics, there seems to be a wide range of acceptable settings as the ECU does indeed readjust if it senses the idle speed is off.

The last motor i just installed i had to adjust it cause it was sitting at about 200 at idle, its got about 8k since build, and still where i set it. It might adjust it a little but none that i've noticed
For both of my 6th generation Civics, I can turn the idle adjust screw a lot with having any noticeable effect on the idle speed. This is expected as the ECU is preprogrammed to maintain the proper idle speed (670 or 700 rpm) by its ability to control air bypass through the IACV. It's only at the most extreme adjustment settings of the screw that idle speed would be affected, at least for 6th generation Civics.
So I am wondering it will only work if you follow a certain procedure?
