Default Wideband Problems

Ok, so I just installed my AEM UEGO wideband o2 sensor, with much help from Mark olson and his write ups. I am using it in place of my stock oxygen sensor (Put the resistor in place of the stock heater wires ) and ran the signal from the gauge to the ECU. My problem is, however, that upon turning on the gauge (car on or not) the gauge will do the startup, then start at 14.9 and hover around there for a few seconds, then raise up to 17.1 then I get straight dashes. Remember, this happens regardless of the car being on or off. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

TOOL BOX:
Engine: D16z6 on a spliced A6 engine harness
ECU: P28
Car: CRX

It is going lean on you. You said you are getting a CEL. What's the code?

I am an idiot, i didnt take it out when i started it, just left it in neutral so the mix was lean anyway, and I hadn't bolted up my header yet (I had to remove it during installation). When I took it out it was reading a little lean, but I believe that was because the header was only sort of on the head. I am still getting the cel and i need to check that.

Could this possibly be causing my running lean problems? my wideband is still displaying in the high 16 and low 17 range around town, then in the normal 14's when on highways and steady throttle in fourth and fifth gear

yes tps affects fuel trim and could cause a lean situation if its telling the ecu that the throttle is less open than it really is
