white smoke and idle prob. 93 civic gsr turbo. help!
i have a 93 civic si hatch with a gsr block b16 head turbo fully built, and its blowing out white smoke of the exhaust even at idle. i know this cant be good.. any opinions on what it is and how to fix it? also, my car doesnt idle right. when i first start it it just shuts right back off untill i hit boost and then it changes from 1-2k every time i hit boost. no vaccum leaks, i think it may just need a tune. help? thanks.
no i have it tuned and everything but its been about a year and it was away all winter. the turbo isnt water cooled and i cant really see a break in the head gasket. i did notice my antifreeze level is slowly going down
its hard to see a break in the head gasket you would have to look at the oil and see if there is water/antifreeze in it (depending on what you put in your radiator) to tell or you could go the most definite but more tedious way of pullin the head off and physically looking at the head gasket

if your losing coolant I would suspect headgasket. Put a funnel in the radiator so it fits snug in the hole. Poor about 2 inches of coolant in the funnel and start the car. Wait until the fan comes on a couple times and keep an eye on the coolant. After the car has warmed up and the thermostat open, you should hardly see any if any, bubbles in the coolant. If you are getting excessive bubbles you have a headgasket out. Oil in the coolant and water in the oil isn't always true. I have had 2 blown hgs on hondas that never contaminated the oil or coolant. It just ate up coolant.
Did you solve the problem? a friend of mine was having a similar problem with his boosted GSR and he was running a water/Oil cooled turbo and water was leaking bast a seal and right into the exahust side of the turbine and causing it to smoke. as they said to a compression test/Leak down test and the move on to instpecting the turbo for blown seals.
good luck!
good luck!
i had a 91 hatch dx that had a d15b2 in it, when it idled for a minute it would start white smoke out the exhaust if it went on longer the idle would go erratic, if i was driving it was fine but would stutter when it sat idling till i got going. Coolant would slowly bubble out when i was driving but the temp gauge never went past normal, and the oil never was contaminated. When i tore it apart def a head gasket issue. I could even hear the coolant gurgle when the engine was shut off at times. like it had air in it
take off the head man, youre loosing coolant and burning white smoke, also idle issues suggest afr is getting jacked up by coolan getting in the combustion mixture, and youre boosted, probably your head gasket man.
