Need my car fixed ASAP! (92 Civic) - help me select an engine replacement option
Well a little while back my engine blew and i haven't gotten it fixed yet. I believe i spun a rod but have no idea, havent opened it or anything. My brothers friend was suppose to come fix it for me but never replies and whatnot. I just recently got a job (my first job) and dont enjoy waiting on people to pick me up, or having to walk home. So i have a few ideas in mind, i would open it and fix it if i knew what i was doing, and thats even if its repairable (didnt go threw the block)
My car is a 1992 civic sedan, with a D16Z6 (stock besides lowered)
My options ive found so far are
- A shop (APR) selling a D16Z6 with uknown miles on it for $300 without transmission
- A guy on CL selling the sale thing with suposively 180k miles on it for $200
-A guy on CL is selling a "low mile clean block" for $180
-Wait on my brothers friend if he ever does it
I am very skeptical of buying things from people on craigslist because i know little.. and got scammed for $250 when i bought a junk tranny.
But if anyone nearby would be able to look at it for me, fix it , or go look at the engines and stuff to help me make sure im not getting scammed that'd be awesome. I live in Puyallup, WAshington

i always prefer to hear a moitor running in a car.
we, in atlnata, have an abundance of JDM resellers. it will be worth the bank to spend it on a low miledge motor that will save you a ton of headache.

Yeah, i know what you mean but its so rare to find that.
Today i just recently figured out there is a mid ranged rod & piston that you can get, the Vitara pistons & eagle h beam rods,, i am tempted to go with doing that... But what all would i have to do, and i dont really know how to rebuild anything..
I mainly just want to fix my car so i can try and trade it for a eg hatch, ive always wanted one and im disgusted with my car.. Its 3 colors and a 4door i just traded for it out of impulse and it was a stupid mistake and im down a bunch. What would you recomend, in the end i want to try and get a EG hatch

does the $200 dollar one come with tranny too? if so i would be a good deal that way once u get it in ur car and running u can sell ur spare parts and make up some of the money, but if u go check it out make sure it turns over and see if they can take the oil pan off and just check for shavings, sludge and rods, make sure the rods don't move when u wiggle them.

Thats the $200 engine
Suposively has 180k miles,,, that was my plan to buy one then fix the one in it, then sell the fixed one

Dont buy the one from APR. They will lie and will rip you off. They buy used Honda's and part them out. I bet you that engine is on at least 250k miles or more. I have couple of friends that were going to buy from them but when they inspected the product it was total crap. Most of the time they wont even write you a recite unless you demand it since they try to get away with not having to pay tax, and then you are even more screwed since you have no proof of purchase.

Well i talked to a shop and they said they could rebuild my block if it isnt busted. And from what i can see there isnt a puncture in the block. I want to do a mid level "build" and am planning on
YCP Vitara pistons
Eagle H Beam Rods
What else would i need to build the block besides the cam.. (too expensive) and would this give it any benefits,, or is it only good if i boost it? Thanks.

quick break down of misc parts:
1. Hot tank - 50$
2. Bore and hone - 80-100$
3. Bearings - 75-100$
4. Gaskets (assuming honda oem)- 150-200$
5. Cylinder head bolts: 70-100$
6. Pressing on Pistons: 20-30$
If you're going boost, skip the cams. If you want an NA build... Dseries isn't the ideal platform Go for a b,k, or even a j swap.

well if you looking to not get scamed. i would look into getting a jdm d15 b vtec { single stage vtec} from a reputable online source like hmotorsonline.com. a bit pricey but you get what you pay for! also it is almost a direct swap.it will run you 7-800 shiped to your door! they are low milage motors from across the pond! im sure others can vouch for hmotors sending near purfect engines.
@YESSMAN- car looks good dude! when you going to cruise to one of our local meets!

check out www.hmotorsonline.com
theyre good about their engines. just browse and see what kind of prices youre looking at, you may even find yourself deciding to go with a b16a swap.
