Default Tranny/car Problem!

Just bought a 4dr ek and tranny is having some problems. Was wondering if you guys know what it is.

PROBLEMS

-While starting in first gear and going, the car shakes like its about to die. Car shakes like no other and my buddy says that my muffler was moving back and forth(just like how when slow or cars take off at the tracks and the muffler moves back and forth.
-First gear has a whining noise.

Could it be the tranny or could it be that the fluid is low?? Need help ASAP!!

Thanks

note.... take a look around on honda tech ALOT of tranny issues going on nowadays...i think its primarily due to the fact that we're all nearing two decades worth of service on these transmissions ( or at least i am) being powered by EG chasis motors and transmissions. Another thing to consider is with the relative abundance of used honda transmissions most people opt to swap them out rather than pursue a costly QUALITY rebuild...the sad truth behind that is, in most cases you're really just swapping in someone else's headache and neglect.. my tranny has about 220k on it and though i maintained the fluid well i think its just about had it ...after all with the way i drive i sure as hell didnt expect it to last forever

Does starting off in 2nd gear change anything? My guess is you have an engine problem more than you have a transmission problem.

second will only increase the jerking motion (haha jerking motion) but yeah its when i accel at low rpms that it feels like the car is struggling and the clutch is slipping/engaging..... at driving speed everything is perfectly fine .... the last time i had the tranny out there was a ton of play at the input shaft

I'd be great if OP would heed this advice instead of doing the lazy and waste of time option of just buying another used transmission which will fail in the exact same way.

I wonder if i have the same problem as you guys...
Mine shakes real bad if you try to ease off slow and go from a stop, but if i give it a lot of gas, like 3k rpm or more when i let go...it doesn't shake one bit. And if i switch to 2nd while it's still shaking..yeah it will keep shaking. It's a real nuisance.

Sounds like your in the same shoes as us bro. haha. When i drive it i have to rev real high n ride the damn clutch just so it wnt shake. sometimes it'll shake alittle bit so i slowly ease on the clutch n gas it more. its bad so tats why i stop driving tat car.

Not very common to have manual transmissions to slip without the synchros going first... You would be grinding and losing gears before your tranny is toast... My old clutch was making the car shutter at take off because the friction plate was so worn and it was only getting a solid bite half the time...

hey even though i thought it was the tranny at first too, well now i think it's the clutch. i burned the clutch recently by starting from a stop in 3rd gear. after that, my car didn't shake at all for the next few days. the shake came back but yeah, i have an ebay clutch so its no wonder it wasn't good from the start...
