Icon3 Need advice! Oil restrictor on my Precision Turbo SC44?? Use one or not?? PLZ HELP!

I am turboing my car, i want to make 300-350 hp.

I have a ported oil pump. My motor is a d16z6, fully built.

Im using a Rebuilt Precision SC44 Journal Bearing
Compressor Cover T04E 3" Inlet
Exhaust Housing T3
A/R .63
Exhaust Trim 63

My question is, has anyone used this turbo?? I have been searching around on people using oil restrictors due to their seals blowing.

My questions are

Do i need a oil restrictor?

What size oil feed line should i go with?

What oil return line should i go with??

My research-
Using a -3an feed no restrictor?
Using a -4an feed no restrictor?
Using a -3an Feed with .65" restrictor??

ANY ONES ANSWERS WILL BE HELPFUL!

Please reply or answer to the poll please!

-3 no restrictor is fine. ball bearing is where a restrictor should be used.

call them, know what your min and max oil pressure is.

at Cold start and WOT if known. Anything over 80psi of oil pressure at either of those points, use no smaller than a .060 restrictor on your -3AN line.

Unfortunately, you will get conflicting information from Precision directly, because they don't look at the engine application closely enough to have a general idea of what the oil pressure is at that 2 main points. What works for Mitsu, may not work for Honda, or Subaru which uses very high oil pressures..

i'm curious about this too and will do whatever you tell me to on this one.

so on a b18c you're saying to use a -3 and a .060 restrictor or just a -3 or a -3 with a .060 or larger?

precision just says a -3 but i also wondered about this since a stock ITR for example has some pretty hardcore oil psi, especially when cold

We have never had any problems with a non ball bearing with a -3.

Guys, I can't reiterate this enough. PLEASE GO BY THE OIL PRESSURE OF THE TURBOCHARGER AND ENGINE ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. THIS IS NOT A ONE SIZE FITS ALL SOLUTION. ;-). IF NOT SURE, TRY WITHOUT ONE FIRST, THEN USE ONE IF NEEDED. ;-)
RULE OF THUMB .... If oil pressure is over 75-80psi at cold start and WOT, use restrictor of .065 or .060 REGARDLESS OF FEEDLINE SIZE. IT JUST MEANS WHAT YOU HAVE MAKES TOO MUCH OIL PRESSURE

i'm going to respond to this just because i'm guessing other educated novice's such as myself are curious. if we run a journal bearing with a -3 on a motor like that b18c5 that does have greater than 80psi will any turbo damage take place? or does it just start smoking which is the que to get a .065 restrictor?

If its run for a short period of time and pushes oil past the oil rings and then you instal a restrictor then it should be fine, if its ran for a long time pushing oil then most likely will need new oil rings. the oil rings are only designed to handle a mximum pressre of 65psi and just about all hondas at cold start up and wot push 70+ psi oil pressure. I've been running a restrictor .065 on my garrett turbo for years, works like a charm

This man speaks the truth. I'm not personally aware of one person who Precision has ever told to run a restrictor on a JB turbo, and a lot of times they are needed (as TheShodan has explained in this thread). I think Precision is causing some of their own problems... It's very strange.

(Oh, and I'm not voting for the same reason TheShodan said -- don't know enough about how everything is going to work out with your setup. I think a little trial and error may be necessary)
