anyone here got turbo n 2.25 inch piping?
how do u like it? cause i think 3 inch piping exhaust will be too loud for me. So much much power am i going to lose just cause i run a 2.25 piping instead of a 3inch?
This is what I'm going to do, and I'm wondering also. I figure it will clip off your high RPM power. That's fine with me though because I have a small turbo, and I'm looking for a fast spool up time and fat powerband for the street. I doubt I'll make over 200 crank horses though. What are your power goals?
I'm running 2.25 on my turbo gsr and I don't mind it. Still pulls plenty hard and makes the noise level pretty reasonable. I'm also running no cat which probably helps a lot. I really would prefer to have 3" but I already had the 2.25" exhaust so I never bothered to replace it. I'll have dyno #s soon.
Ok check my sig. No dyno #'s as of yet, but prolly around 265 or so. Im also running a test pipe. Downpipe is 2.5 though. I like it, its pretty quiet (except when the wastegate opens
) I am going 3" when money allows----2.25 isnt gonna help me get to 400 hp which Im shooting for on pump gaz

So the concensus is that:
2 inch maxes out at about 200hp
2.25 maxes out at about 240ish
2.5 maxes out at about 300ish
3 maxes out at about 400ish
?
Sound about right?? I'm trying to get a ballpark idea in my head- of when it is that things start getting maxed out, not trying to be exact. Maybe I should ask when is the next size up recommended instead of asking when something "maxes out." Let me know what you more experienced guys think the above chart should look like. Im taking a shot in the dark here.

I've made 450whp with a 2.5" downpipe and flexpipe and tanabe racing medallion exhaust (2 3/8"). It's not so much the limits it's just extra restriction and you loose a little bit of power.
Ahh I think I get it now. Your post is encouraging since I've already got a 2.25 inch system. I'm planning to use a 2.5 downpipe/flexpipe with this.
from what i know about turbo's, it should just stop you from reaching boost as fast as a big exhuast would. your turbo might not fully spool until 5-6K where normally it would be 3.5-4.5 K (just an example)
3" downpipe to 3" all the way back, and it's not nearly as loud as I feared it would be. It has a slightly louder growl than stock, but it's not Flowmasters by far. In fact, my truck with 2.2L and glasspack is louder, and my wife's NA Z with 2.5" and high-flow muffler is louder.
I think it all depends on the muffler you go with more than anything else.. Turbo exhaust is typically quieter because of the turbo, or so I've been told.
