GSR 3rd grind Synchrotech Carbon Synchros
Hey guys so last year i had a third gear grind so i purchased the synchrotech bearing seal and carbon synchro rebuild kit and replaced all the synchros. Now my third gear is grinding again at high rpm.
Do you think the synchro is bad again already or would it be the synchro sleeve?
If its the synchro sleeve do i have to replace that and put another new synchro?
Thanks

Did you just buy the syncro cuz if so the syncro collar and sleeve may be groved causing the syncro to catch and cause symptoms ur discribing and the gear. Somtimes u can get away with just a synco but its a better practice to just replace the whole assy. Hope you get it sorted out
Could be the sleeve's engagement teeth. Could be the hub's splines. Could be the gear's engagement teeth. Or could be a combination of all of those. Fresh synchros can't always hide other mechanical issues that were bound to arise regardless.
You won't necessarily need a new synchro when replacing the other parts. Measure its clearance and inspect its ribs on the inside of the ring to make sure its still good. If it's all good, don't worry about replacing the synchro, as it wasn't the problem to begin with.
And unfortunately, since grinding can be such an open issue, no one on here is going to be able to use their internet x-ray vision to diagnose your issue without having the transmission in front of them opened up. So get it out, open it up, do the work, and then report back.

Most likely the synchro sleeve and 3rd gear it's self, did the same thing with my gsr tranny, replaced all bearings and synchros and like 6-8 months later a 3rd gear grind developed. Replaced all synchro sleeves and gears and tranny shifted super good!!
Since the transmission was grinding before changing the synchro, I would think that there was some damage to the sleeve engagement teeth and it is now worn beyond the service limit. Let me know what you need after opening the transmission for inspection: sleeve, gear, etc. Since you purchased the rebuild kit from us last year, I will include a fresh new 3rd synchro at no charge and give you a discount on any other needed parts.
