Default What rpm/speed are you running

ok I have a '96 HX coupe. I have a y7 with a y8 5 speed. No aftermarket parts besides greedy muff. So the y7 is running a y8 exhaust basically.

Found out today that my speed-o displays about 5mph faster than I am actually going. So I think I am going 65mph when actually it 60mph, and I am running a hair under 3000rpm.

Any comments or anyone with a y7 and y8 tranny can you post your rpm at 60, 65, and 70mph?

Yes I have been searching but not finding any 6th gen info. And HT cuts out too many search words so it only looks for "rpm"

It's not the transmission or the speed-sensor inside, it's the actual speedometer dial that's wrong. If you hook up a scanner to your ECU to read the vehicle speed directly, you will see it reads correctly while your speedo is still of. This has been discussed many times before...

To search keywords shorter than 3 characters, add an asterisk.
Example: 65* rpm

lol thank you, thats prolly the mostly usefull info here.

I didn't realize that the speed-o's were commonly off. I did think about it after I posted, the reference vehicle has a size taller tire on it, so that truck is probably the one that is 5 over. But I still get passed and didn't get stopped doing over 70 in a 65 today

It does read a bit off. Mine does aswell. Its about 5 MPH off. I honestly am starting to think that either all of them are like that, or everyone has the wrong speed sensors. Because one of my friends she has a mostly stock 97EX and hers is off aswell. My buddy had a 97 hatch with a DX tranny and his was off.
Its also a bit funny that you have a HX with a DX motor and a EX tranny lol. And a greddy muffler is not a Y8 exhaust.. Y8's have the same exhausts as Y7s.

It's not the rim size, it's the overall tire diameter. I run a 205/40/16 with a 97-spec R trans (in a civic). That means my tires are 4.9% smaller than what the speed sensor expects (195/55/15). The nice thing is that it makes for a 5% reduction in final drive (like going from 4.4 to a 4.62 without tearing apart the trans). The bad thing is that for every 20mph the speedo is indicating, I'm actually going 1mph slower. That means when the speedo says 80mph, I'm really doing 76. Of course none of this accounts for the inaccuracy of speedometer either which adds to the issue.

You can look up exact tire diameters on Tire Rack. Surprisingly tires brands/models can vary a little bit even in the same size...
