Default freeing up coolant/oil passages in headgasket

hey, i have a b20vtec.

b20z2 block with b16a3 block.

i was looking at how the coolant/oil passages line up from the head to the block.

The headgasket has lots of restriction around the passages, the holes in the head and block are huge, but the headgasket has tiny holes.

look at what i mean here....
https://honda-tech.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1307502904

should i use a dremel and open up the headgasket holes to improve oil/coolant flow or did honda design the gaskets to restrict flow like this?

my new gasket is in the mail, i have one week to figure this out.....

Compare a stock one to something like a cometic headset and see.

compare an OEM honda gasket to cometic?

I have a fel-pro coming in the mail - but this is for b20z2 (crv) block. and this has a b16a3 (del slo vtec) head on it, so OEM gets really confusing.

So you're mating a b16 head to a b20 block? What?

yes, and the coolant holes I marked in the picture are huge on the block/head.... but tiny on the headgasket.

so the headgasket is restricting flow of coolant.

same for oil.

is there a reason for this restriction or should I use a file and open these holes in the gasket up?

Okay. So call a well known shop, and ask them to measure the diameter of the oil and coolant passages on a performance aftermarket head basket comparable to whatever your felpro is for.

Call a big name shop on the mainland. Someone who's know for innovative stuff. Id try to get ahold of bisimoto honestly.

If I were you I wouldn't use a Dremel on it right away though. Do what I did to my exhaust manifold basket. Put it in a vice (don't smash it) and take a punch to the holes and lightly tap to open it up. Then Drexel off the excess that sticks out. I had to do this to get the studs on the bottom.of the manifold to line up.

Im no expert but I would say they are suppose to be like that. If honda designed it that way then Id leave it. I know what your talking about because I thought the same thing once before but it may have something to do with building up pressure so the coolant flow is more adequate. IDK but this is my best assumption. I had a buddy club gasket on my last motor and Im 99% sure they were the same size as oem Good Luck.
