So i have a weird problem on my d16y8

on cold starts, the engine won't go past 3k rpm, no matter how much u step down on the gas pedal, BUT this only happens for like the first few seconds of driving, after taking it up to 3krpm maybe after 10 seconds or so it'll run normally. this only happens after u start it in the moorning or havent driven for a few hours,

Also the engine half the time idles really low, like below 500, and some times itll idle normally.

Also the other day, took the car up for a mountain run, and was in pretty much high rpms 3k-6k. the car would sometimes hesitate after 3k rpm also...

my mechanic suggested a ecu problem, maybe a shitty chipped ecu running a shitty program.

I got no CELS so far, previous owner claims the motor has about 80k on it, and upon inspection and doing valve adjustment engine sounds and runs healthy besides the problems i listed.

any ideas?

Car stalled once at a stop light from idling too low.
This is approx 5 mins after driving it in the morning to work.

Changed the spark plugs, noticed one of the spark plugs wasn't even screwed in all the way (it was like screwed in maybe half way, car seems to run better, idle still pretty rough but doesn't seem to be dying, around 600-700 idle, i do have innovative mounts which i guess is stiff. So far havent noticed any hesitating or bogging or feel like fuel being cut off, will see how this goes. if problems persist my next step would be to clean iacv, cap and rotor, o2 sensors

Still having hesitation on cold starts around 3000 rpms, planning to change cap and rotor soon, could this be related to a o2 sensor problem? i got no cels btw. I think i have a weak battery also, cus i left the car for one day w/o driving and it wouldnt start, justt massive machinegun clicks. but when it does have power it starts right away.

 

does the engine make any strange noises at start up? they way u describe your problem it kinda sounds like a intake problem like a intake gasket

 

nope it doesn't, starts up fine, sounds great like a any other engine should sound. For now, i just basically let the car run for about 3 mins before i drive off, seems to be good for the most part. but wanna try to get to the bottom of this,

it juss wierded me out why it continued to do this even when the engine was warm when i did the mountain road run.

but for the most part, if the engine is at normal temperature and im just doing regular driving, no problems, besides the low idle, i noticed after the valve adjustment, sometimes the idle would drop to below 100 rpm like its about to die, but then it comes back alive. SO WEIRD :O!

Your Idle air control valve must be super dirty!! your car is going into limp mode when it wont go past 3k. After warming it up im guessing the iacv is getting enough air to ventilate so try cleaning that.
