Hey i am wondering if anyone can give me advice on why my new swap is acting wierd, I just dropped in a d16y8 in my 97 civic dx, it turns on and idles pretty good, not perfect it fluctuates slightly intermittently. But the real problem is that it will not rev correctly, the engine is built up internally and has a stage 2 cam but just about stock compression, i even had a p28 chipped n put a premium basemap from phearable with my engine specs, but ive checked to make sure there is no vaccuum leaks, i used a timing light n thats all good, fiddled with the dizzy back and forth- slightly advanced made it barely any better, put a new tps since i had one laying around, and double checked that anything i know to be important is correct, also i changed the iacv plug from 3 wire to 2 wire but somthin there may be causing a problem, i took it off and cleaned it reinstalled and nothing changed, tried it with the stock p2e ecu and it has the same problem but even worse.

trying to rev the engine at idle will cause it to bog, pushing the throttle slowly allows it to rev up then bog then rev back up then bog over and over again, try to drive the car and it bucks at what im guessing is anywhere around 2k rpm tho i dont have a tach in the car yet.. what does this sound like im sure somebody has had this problem but this is my first build and swap that ive totally done myself and i just want some ideas before i get back to it tomorrow

Post the CEL codes, and check for swapped sensor connectors.

I'm terribly rusty at this, and I'm gonna be that guy but perhaps it'll spark something.

Why'd you get a p28? P2E is for the Y7, P2P is the Y8.

Am I correct in assuming you're using your DX engine harness? Something seems funky about running a Y8 with a P2E and the DX engine harness.....

Check your grounds, I've had bogging issues with grounds being loose before.

How's your mechanical timing?

There should be either a or a couple grounds brandching from the ECU check those as their important and check the grounds on the shift solenoid. TPS also aids in shifting so maybe check wiring of that.

It was the tps and map switched around, didnt think of it bcuz they fit so prefectly with the dx harness but now i feel dumb lol.

But chaplak im running obd1 p28 for tuning capability and vtec for the y8, my y8 is fully built internally but it should still run on stock map and stock injectors without boost, i just tried the p2e to rule out ecu problems, even tho my p28 was checked by phearable, but even the p2e ecu can start it and check it but of course i wouldnt try to run that ecu for a vtec motor. And yes stock dx harness, I just spliced up a 2 wire iacv and the obd1 ecu jumper harness makes the rest easy
