Can I convert my EGs manual steering to power?
I can't find a solid yes or no on this. I wanna put power steering into my 93 dx. It's going into the shop soon enough anyway so could I have it converted to power steering and if I can any idea how much it would run me? I get semi friend prices from this shop they arent full price but im not getting a super deal.
well, you will need the rack and pinion, which runs about 200 i believe, then a pump- ~$130 and the hoses... then plus labor... personally, i would just deal, seeing as how its going to suck on what little low end torque that DX has already... and add weight... will prolly loose some MPG in doing so.

^good stuff right there. And Also as mentioned, P/S is nice, but your light civic can not be that much trouble for you to steer. I personally like manual steering, but thats just me.
Do you REALLY need power steering? REALLY? If you add a few PSI to your tires, that might be enough for you to get by since low tire pressure can make steering more difficult.
I don't need power steering but it's a nice thing. Im not spending that much ill just buy a normal sized wheel and hopfully that will help some what. (the one on it now seems to have been made for a small child its TINY)
Well heavy tires and wheels+ low tire pressure can make it difficult to turn. I'm finding it very hard to believe that there is any need for a power steering conversion. Then again, I do keep my tires at a higher pressure than most people do.

Yea i think the majority of my problem (now that im thinking about it more since you guys think its not a big deal) is that the wheel the car has is aftermarket and SUPER small. I definitely need to look into getting a full sized one.
Parking lots/low speed turning is where your really going to feel it, and need some arm strength to turn it.
It was really funny to whats my friend try to turn my wheels, she was struggling soo much, i was laughing my *** off.
Yes, it is definitely possible to install PS into the car, however, friend prices or not this will be a expensive job. I can easily see over 1000 to do this, just in labor.
TRY TIRE PRESSURE.. Add like 7 PSI to those tires and I'm sure you'll notice it's much easier to turn the steering wheel. I mean on my Civic, I keep wondering why the **** does it even have power steering when turning the wheel despite the engine being off is so easy. If I can get a measurable improvement in my idling fuel economy by removing the P/S belt, I'm just going to drain the system and just loop the lines. A lot of the difficulty in turning a car with P/S when the engine is off is having to move all that fluid that is in the steering rack from one side to the other.
I do live in back woods NY... My idea of a good rode is one i can actually make it down in my car.. Ill check the tires and see what they are rated for and go with that.
