Default Hardwire GPS, & Radar Detector?

Hello

I need some help. This weekend I’m going to change my head unit & I want to hardwire my GPS, & Radar Detector.

I’m not sure how to do it or even if I can. This is my idea I would cut off the ends of the power cabals & use wire tap connectors to join it to power/ground wires.

Only thing is where would the best place to connect the wire? I don’t want to kill my battery if I forget to turn off my devices.

Thanks!

find where the cigarette lighter wiring and connect it to that, it an "accessory" which is controlled by your ignition so it comes on when you turn the key to the acc position, hope that helps alittle

Ok, I had a idea would it be possible to use this > http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=964453_0_0_

Cut the end & use the wires to power/ground so I don’t have to cut the ends from my chargers & I can always add other devises by plugging them in.

Would the radio wires work or am I better off not using them as it provides power to all the speakers. I just don't want to under power radio & it wont have enough power to work correctly.

Go to radio shack and buy an extra cigarette lighter plug like this:

Fuse it and hardwire it to your accessory circuit, then just plug the charger into it.

It’s for a 2000 Saturn SL2.

What I would like to do is install a 12V power outlet splitter but wire it directly instead of using my power outlet. Then I can use my original power wires & hide it all under the dash for a clean look..

I have been doing a lot of research & I think I found a safe way to add a power splitter. I’m going to use a add a circuit fuse. Only thing would a 10AMP be sufficient for a GPS, Radar Detector, & a iPhone charger? I wanted to install it into the lighter fuse but I can’t seem to find a 20AMP only a 10AMP. So I would install in the radio fuse. Would that be ok?

10A will be more then enough.

Use the lighter power and ground leads to connect to. 94

You mean the lighter fuse or tap in to the power/ground cabels?

I just tested and my Lighter has power even when the car is off. I don't want my stuff running while the car is off so tapping into the lighter wouldn't work. What would the next best place be and how?

Thanks

Find the orange wire in the ign. switch harness, tap into it, [hot only when ign. is in run].94

I have a question. I’m trying to figure out what’s the power & ground on my power splitter (its not color coded). The male plug of a 12v power outlet has 2 connections the spring sides that holds the plug in & the tip. Which one is the power & ground?

I would think the tip is power & the sides would be grounds. This correct?

Thanks!

Ok, might have a problem. I tapped into the lighter even though it has constant power. I just make sure I turn off or unplug my stuff before leaving the car. All I have plugged in right now is my GPS, & Radar Detector, I have 1 spot left for phone charger. Everything has been working fine but the lighter fuse blew today. It’s a 20AMP fuse & that’s all I have plugged. What might of caused the fuse to blow?

Maybe its to much for that circuit, there might be something else on that circuit from the factory (horn, 2nd power outlet, ect...) check a diagram for your car if u can
