Default 94 dx ac compressor, clutch, or idle pulley going out, which one is it?

got a 94 dx when I ride down the road with the ac on it squeals like crazy when I first start it up but doesnt do it at idle. When it gets to normal opperation temp every 30 seconds or so it squeals for 4 to 5 seconds then stops and repeats at 60mph. Not sure if this is my clutch, compressor itself or could it be the idle pulley? I took to engine out and rebuilt it 300 miles ago or so and cleaned the ac bracket with the idle pulley on with purple power thats why I thought (or hopeing because they are cheap) it could be that but im leaning more towards the clutch. The ac is still blowing cold with no sign of failure when the squeals start. So im stumped. any info would be great

Could be both. Mine is doing something similar. Get a hold of a stethescope or some similar contraption and listen for the metal to metal sounds.

Perhaps the belt is slipping?

there is no damage to the belt so I dont think thats it and if it is, it probably has something to do with one of the three components failing that I mentioned in this thread

anybody got an idea? If not ii guess ill start with replacing the idler pulley first since its cheap then the clutch if that doesnt fix it

Replace and tighten the A/C belt and then go from there.

a/c belt has less than 500 miles on it. Tightened it up a little and still the same problem

Are you sure the noise isn't coming from the alternator or even the power steering pump?

If the noise is coming from the A/C compressor, check the clutch plate clearance. If that's fine, you may need to replace the clutch and pulley.

yeah Im sure its the compressor because when I turn the a/c off in the middle of the sound its making, it stops. Ill try that when I get a chance. The noise is real bad and consistant on the interstate at 65-75mph. around town it doesnt do it that often

If it were the clearance, wouldnt it be a constant squealing rather than intermittent like it is doing now?
