Oil Pan Gasket Leaking
I have a question, or more of clarification issue. My Oil pan gasket is leaking and I was told that its loosing oil pressure because of it causing my VTEC to be less efficient or not work at all... Is this true? My turbo covers the sound of my VTEC so I cant hear it anyway, any truth to that?
My turbo, wastegate, and blow off valve all cover/shadow the sound of my vtec... My JDM motors in the past with the slightly .5" larger solenoids had a much louder sounds/activation... But with a fully tuned LS/Vtec turbo I don't hear **** beside Turbo bliss!!!
OP, to answer your question no your leaking oil pan gasket should have nothing to do with your oil pressure provided it's not leaking a quart a day... I have a very small leak on my pan due to my tuning shop over tightening the bolts and not using silicone sealant... But it's not a big deal, something that's easily fixable with my next oil change...
So No, if you have oil pressure issues it's something else, first I would check your oil pick-up as mine was clogged pretty bad as I picked up my block used... So make sure to clean that thing out well!

No my pressure is fine, it was more of a friend telling me this and me not believing him. But yeah with the open dump tube I cant hear my Vtec at all, it engages right around 4800 almost when I hit the full 16PSI so I hear the turbo spool and feel the boost not the Vtec. Ill be replacing the gasket anyway this weekend. Ive got oil everywere, I believe I have a bad oil pan tap as well. Its kinda at an upward angle as to "Trap" the oil in the line
No sealant is supposed to be used @ the mating surface of the oil pan and the block. The torque specs are VERY low, I believe 13ft/lb (someone correct me if I am wrong), and it is VERY important not to go over that. Also, it is important to follow the sequence outlined in the Haynes manual for proper tightening.
^ don't make me bust out my service manual and make you look foolish. Where the oil pump mates to the block and main seal areas require sealant or it will leak through the joint. 7ft lbs

I got tired of factory gaskets leaking over time so I said **** it and used Toyota oil pan sylicon. No more issues with a leaky oil pan gasket. Now when I have to take off my pan it's going to be a pain in the *** but I feel it's worth it.
