Hey all, i have a 95 si with a y8 sohc vtec , ive chased down 3 oil leaks and now im on the last one ...the cam seal as of right now im planning on pulling the cam to do the change and ensure that the seal is properly set ...im just curious have any of you tried the just pulling the cam gear and tapping the seal in place method or should i definelty pull the cam??? Thanks reply soon im starting in the AM lol....
There is no need to pull the cam.
Purchase genuine Honda seal. (They're cheap, even from the dealer)
Just remove the valve cover, drive belts, harmonic balancer(g/l with that - you'll need about 200ftlbs to break that loose), and timing belt covers, untighten the tensioner bolt. Remove timing belt (I recommend doing a complete timing belt job while you're in there)
Remove the cam sprocket.
Stab the old seal with an awl, pry out.
Lube new gasket with new oil, insert on cam, press into place with something that's not sharp.
Replace cam sprocket.
Make sure the crankshaft and camshaft are still at TDC.
Replace and tension belt. Torque tensioner bolt. Gently crank engine by hand with plugs removed to detect interference.
Reassemble everything.
BTW, once you have the harmonic balancer off, you might as well replace the crankshaft seal (if you can remove the crankshaft sprocket).

thanks for the insight , sounds like thats a first hand experience, i did the crank seal not too long ago so i should be good , but thats probably the route ill take, sounds good !
Concur with Sonia's Driver's approach, except I find that a corkscrew is the best cam seal and crank seal remover by far. Try to find a strong one, especially at the coils, and have a few. A certain corkscrew I have used on around half-a-dozen seal removals finally broke this past autumn while removing the crank seal.
