Default has any one ever

I know this is a stupid question, but im all out of time and now short on funds. has any1 ever replaced piston rings in a B18A without removing the crank? i dont wana have to drop the whole block and i know this shouldent be a quick fix, but im trying to make it as quick as possible.

any help would be awesome.

You could do it by taking off the head and oil pan, rotate the crank so the piston is down in the cylinder, unbolt the rod, push it out the top, rering it, put it back and rebolt it in place. Not a good idea though. Working from under the engine, it's going to be difficult to work with the rod bolts. You need to torque them back using a rod bolt stretch gauge either way. Using a torque wrench instead of a stretch gauge could lead to broken bolts in a high revving engine.

In the end this will cost you a bit for the gauge, putting the head back on, etc... Also, you're assuming no machining will need to be done, forgoing the measurements of different parts.
