Default Integra 3rd gear problem, pops out

I have read the threads and am still unsure of the problem. No grinds and the shifts feel great, but occasionally pops out of third. Seems to only happen in L turn, but so rare so far that I am not sure. '95 LS with 220k miles and short shifter for 100k of those, nothing changed. I am probably due for for MTF fluid change, about 30 - 40k. Will that help if a syncro problem? I saw an old thread about popping out with L turn, but no answer.

Hey I think your 3rd gear synchro is bad. I think that is a syptom of a bad synchro.

Usually the pop out is from worn engagement teeth on the gear and synchro sleeve. You will need to open it and inspect the parts for wear. I would also recommend new bearings as a worn and loose bearing can also cause this problem.

Aftermarket rebuild kits any good, or only OEM parts as needed? I did not find OEM rebuild kits.

I wouldn't even think about messing with anything after-market as far as third gear synchro is concerned. OEM FTW.

Tranny has 220k and will likely need more than 3rd gear. Likely bearings and other syncros. Quite expensive one part at a time. Just trying to confirm that kits are good or not.

No, Syncrotech rebuild kit is better than OEM I would say if you are indeed in need of a rebuild.

The bearings and seals in our kits are NTN and NOK which are the same parts Honda uses OEM. We have OEM synchros and sleeves as well as Hi Performance Synchrotech carbon synchros available.

sorry to bump an old thread, but how much would a tranny rebuild usually cost if you take it to a shop?

Question, does shifter move a lot, [back and forth] when accelerating/decelerating and/or turning?

If so check your motor mounts. 94

So, I checked motor mounts and changed fluid and it felt great on the road. Popped out a few times at the track last outing. Out of 3rd, mostly in a hard L turn. Why L? Be careful of cost. If one gear and syncro are bad, what about others and bearings. Look at the posts by Syncrotech Tranny. Many people say look for a used tranny, but depends on your needs and pocket book. I have not done mine yet.
