Random noise in engine! Help!!!
ok well i have figured out the noise is my throwout bearing...crap. well idk what im gunna do, the shop i take my car to is charging me $600 plus labor...i really wana do it myself, but i dont kno how long it will take, or how to even change the bearing. if i doit myself i plan on buying a new clutch but idk what to get, i dont want something rediculous but i dont want stock just in case i do add a little more power to my car. tell me everything i need to kno about changing a throwout bearing and a clutch.
If you have a groaning type noise when depressing and releasing the pedal, this is usually caused by an un lubricated clutch fork pivot on our cars.. I had this issue and like you assumed throw out bearing... went in, changed clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings.. and even lubed up the fork pivot..... was dead silent for two weeks... not when the car is hot the pivot squeak comes right back.... poorly designed pivot point IMO. You can re grease this with a large caliber syringe full of heat grease and a mirror if you pull back the slave cylinder boot... good luck.
as far as clutch replacement, read the DIY section in the FAQ. You will need to drop your sub frame, which is connected to your suspension, remove the one axel, separate the trans. its a pretty huge job, and I would say definitely requires experience. Significantly harder than a 92-95 D series.

You can change the clutch and bearing by yourself but you gonna need an extra hand and tools to do this job right. $600 expensive to change a clutch and bearing but that just business for the mechanics. Might as well take your time and try to do the job right because it quite bit of work.

Strongly suggest impact tools and a torque wrench for this. Like I said with the sub frame on our cars its a little more difficult. I would spend the $600 if that includes parts and you are not a confident DIY mechanic.
