Default Unknown Engine Block Reinforcement

I just bought what I thought was a gsr block from craigslist a couple days ago. At first I thought the block was "posted" but It wasnt until I found out what block posting meant. It doesing look like any sleeves I've seen before. It looks like rods were pressed vertically into the water jacket. What ever it is, It looks like it was done quite professionally. I was wondering what this type of cylinder reinforcement this is called. I will upload some pictures as soon as i get home.

Thanks
