i have a 1991 acura integra that i've been having problems starting for a while. Its so wierd because sometimes it'll work fine for a few days but when I drive for a while maybe on a day of running errans i'll park it and come back to it maybe 30 minutes and it won't want to start. I've seen about 4 mechanics that work on all types of cars and i've gotten several different responses. Fuel pump, distributor, starter and main relay. I replaced the fuel pump, distributor and starter about 8 to 10 months ago. And I replaced the main relay literally 1 week ago. I thought it was all smooth sailing because it was starting great. But today 3/11/11 after driving all over town it did it to me again. It never dies on me. Sometimes it just won't start. I really don't want to go all over town asking different mechanics to tell me different things it might be and end up replacing the whole motor or wiring. this doesn't necessarily happen in any specific season. it can happen at the end of fkn august or in the middle of winter when the ab. snow mans are out. Can you please help me?

 

those would be my suggestions of what it could be but doesnt mean its the only one. try this next time it doesnt want to start check and see f the the main power wire that feeds the starter gets hot. it could just be a bad power wire. my dually had that problem.it ended up just being a faulty power wire and i didnt need to spend the other 300 bucks to fix a 20 dollar part. lol

 

Please try to describe what and how it does what it does, and what it does not do. For example... does the starter turn over normally but there's seemingly no spark? Or, does it click but not turn over? Or, does it turn over slow a few times... You get the idea.

Anything it normally does that it doesn't do? (lights not lighting on dash, buzzers not buzzing, etc)

what they said^^^^ what are the symptoms? last week in my 90 somehow after i filled up before class my car wouldnt even try to start (no power from ignition) i knew that it was getting power because my radio and everything else worked, so what i did was pull a piece of wire from my trunk and jumped it the started my connecting the S terminal to the other one and it fired right up so from there i knew the problem was somewhere between my ignition and starter so when i got to my auto class i automatically checked all fuses and checked to see if i was even receiving power from my ignition. there was no change so i got out the trusty wiring diagram and traced the wires and found 1 blue and 1 black wire under my cluster/dash that were not connected. a little solder and heat shrink and it starts right up everytime now. my dumbass teacher tried tearing half of my car apart and telling me that i needed new relays and yada yada yada

so moral of the rant would be to make sure your getting power from ignition to starter and go from there, it could just be a loose connection.. or it could be something else so details are needed

 

ok thanks guys. here are some details... when i turn the key in the ign. the main relay clicks, the fuel pump clicks, and so does the starter. it clicks as many times as i try it. next time this happens i will most deff check the wires from the starter to the ign. maybe that there is some sort of mishappenin there. most deff will look into this. :]
