Default my car doesnt start sometimes....

sometimes like 1 in two weeks or so, my car wont start. I drive for a while and turn off my engine. Then 5 mins later i'll try to start it and it wont start. I would have to wait for 10mins before it starts again. The engine does turn tho. and the battery does work. I try to fix it by buying a new fuel pump and new distributor rotor.

What year Civic? You might be able to determine whether the main relay is bad using a continuity tester, though this could be a bit tricky because the problem is intermittent.

i had the same problem with mine, but mine was because of a bad immobilizer and i took it out and it worked. if you have one of those alarm systems it could be that. what happens the connector don't work right and they cant make the car start sometimes and sometime the car will just turn right off. If you don't have alarm system then its 100% ur ignition switch where u put in the key i work at a mechanic shop we had the same problem with a honda crv and the connectors on the switch where burned and we replaced it and it works great.

If it's a '96+ model year, it could be the crankshaft position sensor as well. I had this exact problem on my '03 Mitsu lancer. It just needed a good cleaning and that fixed it!

I resoldered the joints on a '92 hatch relay. You can sometimes see the cracks in them when you pop the cover off. Its been working fine for two years since then.

Is the CEL ON?

If the fuel pump primes when the engine won't start, then I'd troubleshoot the distributor (coil or igniter).

ok now I just changed the coil, now it starts but it wants to turn off. So i have to give it a little gas to keep it on. Once its on, it stays on.

Are you saying that the engine is now misfiring or that it has a low idle problem?

You might:

-Check whether the ignition timing is set to spec
-Adjust the idle speed with the screw on the throttle body
-Clean the IACV

Besides replacing the main relay, what have you done since your original post?

Can we assume the CEL is not ON?
