Default 1st to second shift hard....

when driving my 98 civic dx coupe, the higher the rpms get the harder it is for me to shift. i have a short shifter on as well and i heard they can mess up the syncros but also heard it was a myth. idk if im supposed to have a syncromesh addative in the trans but i don think thats the problem figuring the trans fluid was changed bout a year ago... any ideas or possible fixes

Does it grind or just hard to put it into gear? Your not getting slipping in higher gears are you?

its probably your clutch. I had the same issue and it was my clutch. I had the same issue for other gears though, but I was on a built turbo setup. Do you have the same issue putting it into say 3rd, if you are cruising on the highway around 70 and try to downshift?

It's most likely your 1st to 2nd gear synchro. It takes the most abuse out of any of the synchros and wears out first. You get hard shifts, grinds or clunks. If you learn how to rev match your upshifts as well as your downshifts, you won't even notice it anymore. If not, welcome to your first transmission rebuild. Jimster, you're right with the clutch observation about it 'happening to all your gears'. One gear is most likely just the one synchro. Another possibility is a bent shift fork. That problem rev-matching won't help, so that would be a good diagnostic tool to determine which it is.
