ATTN: Turbo experts. I need more info/advice/opinions/facts/ect.
OK, where to start? .... I always heard that turbos from a Volvo are good and that they are the same as a T3 turbo, is that correct?
I went to a shop that a friend recomended and I told them that I want to turbocharge my 92' Integra RS.
As a matter of a fact, they have a turbo from a Volvo just seating there, the guy told me that the turbo is ofcourse used and it works, but he is still gonna rebuild it so he can sell it to me.
The shop makes costum turbo manifolds/intercoolers/pipes/ ect. so getting a manifold to go in the B18 and plugs into the Volvo turbo is a cake.
Lets cut through the chase,... the guy said I have the right motor for turbo,(it holds more boost than anyone expects).
I don't know if to believe it or not, but the guy said that he knows a guy that has an Si and he is running mid 12's in the track, running like 15psi in stock everything, but instead of buying bigger injectors and replacing with the old ones, he added more injectors,... so he has 8 injectors.
The shop guy told me that there's this little thing that works with RPMs/psi and while the PSIs built up, each injector opens.
Anyways, I don't know if to trust this guy, he talks like he knows everything and from experience.
the volvo turbo he is gonna give it to me for $225 dollars, and he has a manifold for the B18 but he needs to make it fit the turbo, for me for $200....... oh oh oh, another thing, that volvo turbo has already a wastegate, but the guy said I need another wastegate, external wastegate. I'm not sure why I need another one.
AND another thing, I always liked the front mount intercooler look, but the guy said that water intercooled is much much better, it cools much more and it takes less turbo lagging. What to do?
I hope you guys help me on this one, should I buy the volvo turbo?? should I trust this guys?? This is not the first time I heard that B18s can hold 14psi or so......
damn, what to do???
Thanks in advanced.
P.S. If you have to choose between the GReddy Type S Blow off valve or the HKS SS Blow off valve, which one would you pick???

External Wastegate
You can have either the internal or external. for bigger turbos and for higher boost levels, you will want an external. Otherwise you can use the internal for lower boost levels.
Liquid-Air IC
From my readings, you only want a Liquid-Air IC, for drag racing only. The water will become heat soaked from daily driving and become inefficent.
Questions you have to answer
What are your goals for this? hp?
Are you planning on rebuilding the engine?
Is it daily driven, or drag racing only?
We can help you better once we know these facts.

thanks for replying,...
My power goals are 200hp @ wheels
I was planing of rebuilding atleast the piston rings, is there anything else I should be looking out for for rebuilding??
And is gonna be Daily Driven.
thanks.

As for the additional injector's, they are a very reliable way to increase fuel. One extra injector per intake runner that is controlled by a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor that reads above atmospheric pressure (Reads boost cause your stock MAP does not).
Above 8 psi it’s recommended you use a deck plate to support the floating cylinder sleeve in the block.
The Volvo turbo if I remember correctly is a T3 .48 tubine/.42 compressor, which will spool up quickly (2.8k rpm maybe) and lose efficiency in the higher rpms due to the small compressor for your application.
The internal wastgate that is already on this turbo is probably good to 15psi at most. After that I wouldn't recommend using it for your application.
I wouldn't recommend going over 10 psi with this turbo and if this is just a car for street then I would stick with a FMIC. just my $.02

Thanks alot Quiz,...
What kind of power should I expect at 10psi???
So if i'm gonna run 10psi then I won't need the external wastegate, is that correct?
So the Volvo turbo is actually a good turbo?
ooh, and what's your favorite Blow off valve??
thanks.

I wouldn't trust this guy completly. Read, read, and read. then trust yourself. A DIY turbo kit is something than can be done easily. Reasearch and do all the work yourself. spend the extra money you saved on a better turbo like a t04e, t3/t4, or t3 super 60.
10 psi should have you over your 200 hp goal with the proper tuning
external wastegate isn't needed
valvo t3 is goo but it runs out of steem early (6000rpm)
first gen DSM BOV sounds good and is only about 40 shipped

fire7882 pretty much summed it up for you. Keep in mind that even though he is a friendly local shop they are also salesman. They may suggest a few things that may not be necessary but wont hurt anything except your wallet.
IMO - Try the t3 see if you like it.
Try reading Maximum Boost by Corky Bell Its a good book to start with. It may help you decide on a shop install or a DIY.
