Default JDM SIR Tranny LSD Broke need help

hey there Honda-tech i just recently brook the differential in my itr or sir transmission im not sure which one it is but it has the oem viscous lsd and that is what broke

the question is in order to replace the differential with a aftermarket one which one will fit right into the application that i have right now i heard that i would need to upgrade my final drive as well? i am trying to avoid doing this.

i also just picked up a 95 ls hydro tranny as a temporary tranny to get me around this is my daily driver.

The first thing you will need to do is figure out which LSD you actually have. That will then direct you in which way you can go. The bolt patterns on both of those LSD's are totally different. If it is a viscous LSD then it would not be a Type R. But if your not sure..get it torn apart and have a look!

If it is the viscous LSD, you will need to replace it with another viscous LSD. You can replace it with an open diff or 10 bolt LSD, but will need to use a 10 bolt final drive, either OEM or aftermarket.

Usually it's the neck that breaks where the axle connects in the viscous LSD. Unfortunately this can not be repaired. Best bet is to replace the LSD and final drive to the 10 bolt stronger helical design. If you have a Viscous LSD it will have 14 bolts on the ring gear.
