help with a crank no start?
im trying to fix my inlaws 1990 civic. I belive its a 1.6 16 valve. The car has no spark. i renewed the distributor with a new unit and still has no spark. I removed the 12mm service bolt on the fuel filter housing and theres fuel present. I sprayed starting fluid with the intake boot off and still no start. Is the crank sensor in the distributor? what else can i look at? i have swapped a coil/cap/rotor and distributor assembly. any input will greatly be appreciated
if you have no spark you either have bad distributor, ecu,or broken wire somewhere, did you replace the distributor with a new one or used one. There was no need to spray starting fluid in the throttle body its not going to help with spark have you checked for any trouble codes? and yes the crank sensor is in the distributor
at first i renewed the coil/cap/rotor. That didnt work so i swapped a "new' distributor from an auto parts store. Im not entirely sure whether or not the rotor was turning but i think it did becuase the rotor was in a different place when i went to swap in the new distributor. I will have to check again. I checked all the fuses and all were good. I have power at the blue wire going to coil. i didnt have ground but im not sure if the ecu supplies ground or not. To check codes im guessing i just short out some connector and cound blinks correct? anyone have a picture of what connector i check codes with? thanks for all the input guys

well just to give you guys a heads up. I ended up fixing the car but lemme tell u what i did. Maybe itll help someone out later. I first verified it was a crank no start. checked for spark. no spark was present. checked for proper fitment of cap on distributor, Fitted as it should be. checked for power at blue wire going to the coil. battery voltage present with key on position 2. while cranking checked for ground signal at black wire going to coil. ground present. inspected engine grounds. grounds contained no more than .03 ohms. set engine at tdc. removed valve cover gasket and inspected cam timing and belt. timing dead on and belt ok. bad new distributor. Renewed "new" distributor. fired right up set timing with connector shorted out all ok. note to everyone. dont buy electronic parts from bunk *** hole in the wall auto parts stores. THis was my inlaws car and she tried to cut corners by buying whack *** parts
