heat wrap - yay or nay?
i just got my new manifold and downpipe in.
i'm planning on ceramic coating the manifold due to the complexity of wrapping it - tons of bends and whatnot, would be awkward to wrap.
with the downpipe, I was planning on just wrapping it with some DEI thermal wrap and calling it a day. i dont' really want to ceramic coat it because it's hella expensive and i'm quickly running out of money.
however, I was told recently by a friend that wrapping it will cause hot spots on the downpipe, causing warps. not only that, but it will corrode much faster, and possibly make the stainless steel brittle over time. is this true? should I not wrap it?

Hmm my setup is the same right now ceramic coating on mani and dumptube but my
Downpipe is wrapped haven't heard of the whole hot spot thing like to know this iinfo as well

i wrapped my downpipe with DEI titanium wrap.

on their site, regarding the titanium wrap, DEI recommends spraying the pipe with silicone spray if you're using a steel pipe, then wrapping, to prevent possible rusting. but i've never heard of heat spots or warping.

it's pricey. the manifold alone is $150. I'd probably be looking at another $100+ to do the downpipe, and $50+ to do the dumptube, whereas i already have some dei titanium wrap lying around to use ya know?
Dude ive seen a few wrapped manifolds on here that have looked clean as hell. You juss have to take ur time and wrap it tight. Im getting my manifold and downpipe ceramic coated and wrapped. I live in a hot humid area so I want all the help with underhood temp I can get
Heat wrap works great, although I don't recommend it for steel if your car is a DD, the moisture and dirt the wrap holds will definitely rust your system faster than normal, especially if salty road water gets into it. If your car is not a DD (doesn't see rain), then heat wrap all the way. If everything is stainless, I would wrap it and be done.

I highly recommend anything to lower temps under the hood. Turbo blankets, coatings, wraps, and ect. If you are worried about wrapping your DP and have it rust/fail then scuff it up and coat it yourself with the ceramic paint from the auto store then wrap it. Be sure to prep and prime the surface very well though so you don't have any chipping.
I started with wrapping my DP. That lead to getting my manifold, waste gate, and turbine housing coated. Now I recently got a turbo blanket and all this is a great improvement. My valve cover is giving off more heat than the turbo.

yep, I bought a ptp blanket already from some suggestions on here. think I'ma just paint the header with some high temp paint then wrap it to avoid any corrosion to the surface of it. hopefully a nice, tight wrap along with coating the wrap afterward will leave it moisture-free

I wrapped my old ramhorn and dp in reg DEI wrap and I sprayed it with their Insulating Paint, I was very impressed no more smelling my flesh burning on the manifold after I accidentally brushed it with my hand and my underhood temps went way down... if it was coated it would still be hot as hell to the touch without the wrap from my experiences.
