Hit pothole car stalls and won't start
Fixed the problem but thought I'd put it out there in case a similar thing happened to anyone. Heres the case. Had a friend who's wife hit a huge pothole and then the car stalled and coasted. She tried to crank the car, it turned over but no crank. She pulled over and we went to look at it. First I check the timing belt and it was good. Next checked spark, it was a weak yellow spark but after looking at the corroded plug wires at the cap I figured that was the reason for weak spark but not the starting problem. My next guess was fuel. Although I've seen many honda's go for 100s of thousands of miles without fuel pump issues I decided to check it. I first checked the service bolt at the fuel filter, it had some fuel but no pressure. I then checked power at the pump and it had the correct voltage and the pump was priming. The gauge showed 1/4 tank or more. I pulled the pump and WALLAH! the pump sock filter fell off and the fuel level wasn't high enough to pull through the opening. I guess the shock knocked it off. I put it back on and bam! the car cranked right up. I know it's a random issue but at least it's searchable now and hope it helps someone in the future.
