Icon2 Is my thermostat stuck?

Hey guys,

Does this sound like my thermostats stuck shut ?

I was tuning earlier and after a while i noticed my coolant temperature starting to get quite high. I pulled over in a layby thinking **** has my head lifted or head gasket failed (thinking the worst). I then thought to myself "what if it just the thermostat". I then turned the heaters on and the coolant temperature started to drop fast so i decided to start driving home with my heaters on.

Whilst i was driving back i switched the heaters off and the coolant temperature started to climb again so i turned them back on and it started droping again.

When i got back i done a compression test and all cylinders were spot on. I got close to 140psi across all of them which is what i normally get.

Thank you for your time

My was doing the same thing you said.

When I turned the heat on, the temp dropped like a rock.

I switched the thermostat and re filled and bleed the cooling system, and it is just fine now.

Seems like it could definitely be a thermostat.

Have you made sure the coolant fan is engaging at temp? You can always start the car when its COOL and pop the radiator cap off. Wait for it to get to temp and the water should start to circulate once the thermostat opens.

Be sure to get a new gasket.
