Question about elevation and performance
I live in Montana at a high elevation and I know that high elevation has a negative effect on a car's performance. I have seen many cars that are supposed to run a 13 or 14 second quarter mile, run a 15 to 17 second quarter mile. My question is how can I make my b16a swapped civic run like its at sea level instead of at 4 or 5 thousand feet above sea level. Dyno tunning is not really an option because I live in the middle of know where Montana and there is no tuners. Could I do adjustments to my car myself? Could I order a custom ecu? Thanks for the help.

Re: Question about elevation and performance
No tuners nearby will limit your options. You might want to look into learning how to tune yourself. You can order an ECU with a custom basemap (Phearable) but it would still have to be at least street tuned, preferably by someone that knows what they are doing.

it's all about how much air you can get in the engine. higher altitudes mean less air to push in, as it is not as dense...
big cams, ported head, or some sort of forced induction are about the only options.
tuning may help a bit for the NA setup, but don't expect miracles...

Re: Question about elevation and performance
less air = less power no matter what when all motor. Look into NOS or small turbo. You will spend a fortune on header cams and valvetrain for only a percentage of their normal power increase at sea level. Yet turbo and NOS will add the same amount of power at any given elevation (50-shot or 7lbs-boost is the same increase at any altitude).
All motor makes bigger gains at lower elevations...
