Default overheating

so my car started to overheat today on the way home I turned on the heat and it brought the car back to normal temp till I got home. Their was no steam so I am going to assume their is no leak the overflow was empty though so any ideas of what it could be.

if the overflow tank is empty that is a sign you are likely low on coolant. check it once the car cools down. Then move From there

If he's not leaking it then he's burning it. Only one of two ways to do that. Headgasket or crack in the block. He pretty much said it isn't leaking. If it's something ridiculous like he failed to top off the fluids then that's another thing entirely. Cross your fingers and hope it's just a bad thermostat but these cars are old and headgaskets are failing like they were taking the SATs.
