To much play in timing belt on b18b?

Default To much play in timing belt on b18b?

Hey is there to much play in my new timing belt. 2nd time doing one and its the only thing I suck at. Failed at the first and and damaged a 4g63. Anyways I think this has to much play. I could be wrong. Let me know what you think.

best way that ive found is take a decent size common screw driver and pry up on the tensioner pulley and hold it and tighten the bolt back, if the belt whines while its runing its too tight

If you cannot figure out how to use the tensioner to tighten the belt, I would recommend you have someone else work on your car.

whats happening if your doin the timing yourself its jumping back a tooth or 2 (INTAKE cam)when u tighten it causing it to be loose get sumone to put a 12mm on the intake n go it again n keep it tight while the belt it on it until u finish doin the tensioner!! the intake cam wont stay exactly straight up like the ex cam check it out

put the ex cam str8 up n the intake a tooth back n turn the intake str8 up with the 12mm to make that top tight then go to the tensioner and your good

Yeah were working on it. Got a friend coming over to help tomorrow.

Yeah I am the one having trouble. I have rebuilt engines before. Just never done timing belts.

i grab a long screwdriver sometimes i pry on the tensioner but usually i just pry the waterpump gear up and it keeps the belt nice and tight.
